Why your SEO isn’t working (and what nobody tells you)

You already know what SEO is. You might even be trying it. But the results aren't coming, Google still isn't moving you up, and your competitors show up before you do. This article is for you.

We're not going to explain what the acronym stands for. We're going to explain why, even if you're "doing some SEO," you're probably doing it wrong. And how to fix it.

The most expensive mistake: confusing activity with strategy

Posting to your blog every week isn't SEO. Stuffing keywords into titles isn't either. Setting up your Google Maps listing and never touching it again — even less so.

SEO in 2026 doesn't reward effort. It rewards well-executed intent.

That means before you write a single line of content or touch a single page on your site, you need to answer three questions:

  • What is your ideal client actually searching for? Not what you think they search for. What they actually type into Google.
  • What intent is behind that search? Searching "what is SEO" isn't the same as searching "SEO agency Tenerife price." The first wants information. The second wants to hire someone.
  • What is your competition doing that's working? Not to copy it. To beat it.

Without answering this, everything else is noise.

The three mistakes sinking your rankings

01

You're optimising for keywords nobody searches for.

This is the most common one, and the quietest. You're ranked #1 on Google for a keyword that gets 10 searches a month. Congratulations. It's worth nothing. Keyword research isn't guessing. It's analysing volume, intent, difficulty and real opportunity.

02

Your site is technically broken and you don't know it.

Google penalises slow sites, sites that don't load properly on mobile, sites with 404 errors, broken links, missing structured data. Your site can look fine on screen and be full of technical problems underneath.

03

You're publishing content with no architecture.

A blog with disconnected, standalone articles doesn't build authority. Google needs to understand what your site is about as a whole, what topics you own, how your pages relate to each other. That's called content architecture.

What changed in 2026 that almost nobody is applying

Classic SEO isn't enough anymore. Something new has shown up that's rewriting the rules: GEO, or Generative Engine Optimization.

When someone asks Google's AI, ChatGPT or any voice assistant about a business like yours, do you show up in the answer? Or does your competitor?

Generative search engines don't just index sites. They synthesise information and present it directly. If your content isn't structured to be understood and cited by an AI, you're losing visibility in the fastest-growing channel there is.

Optimising for Google is still essential. But optimising for AI is already urgent.

You can go deeper on this in our article "GEO vs SEO: how AI is changing who shows up first".

What a serious SEO strategy should include in 2026

01

Full technical audit

Identifying everything holding back crawling and indexing on your site.

02

Deep keyword research

Cross-checked against your client's real search intent, not assumptions.

03

Content architecture

Connecting service pages, blog, landing pages and conversion coherently.

04

On-page optimisation

Titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, structured data, speed.

05

External authority

Mentions, links, presence in relevant directories, reviews.

06

GEO adaptation

So your business shows up not just on Google, but in AI answers too.

This doesn't happen in a month. But with the right strategy, the first movements show up in 60 to 90 days.

If you've read this far, it's because SEO matters to you and you want to do it properly. Not halfway, not with shortcuts, not with empty "first page in 30 days" promises.

At Dynamus we treat SEO as part of a complete digital strategy. We don't sell standalone rankings work: it comes bundled inside web design, because a site that can't be crawled doesn't get fixed by optimising it afterwards. We build sites designed from day one to be found, understood and chosen.
